Preparing the Post #
- Make the title of the post an H1
- Make all the other headings in the post H2 (or H3)
- Always use an image from somewhere.
- Include an alt tag of the image with alternative text that is the same text as the title of the post. (not in the caption area, you can ignore that if you want, just in the alt-text area.
- Add an internal link in the article (i.e. a link to another article in the blog, or to the About page or something)
- Add one outbound link (to another webpage, maybe a Wikipedia, or a study, or something that relates to the post) This sounds counterintuitive, but it will help with rankings if it can be done.
- Do a quick spell check.
- Publish the post to your site.
Let’s Google Know About The Post #
- Go to your Google search console and select your website
- Go to the “Crawl” menu on the left-hand side and select “Fetch As Google”
- Enter the URL of the specific post you just published (at the top it will have your website name and then a blank box for you to type the specific URL of the post. www.firstproctective/millersmusings/best-life-insurance
- Leave the desktop option chosen in the little drop-down just to the right (it should default to desktop)
- Click “Fetch” (No need to Fetch and Render, just Fetch)
- Then it will appear in the list below, in the list below, click “Request Indexing”
- Click “I am not a Robot”
- Check the box for “Crawl Only this URL” (there is a quota of 500 times a month that this can be done, the other option Crawl this URL and it’s Direct Links has a quota of only 10 times a month. Maybe next week, you can click that button instead as there will be more direct links) Submit the request
- Now head over to SiteMaps (under the same crawl dropdown on the left)
- Check the box for your site and click submit (followed by a confirmation of the submission)
- It should say “Pending” which is fine.
DO THIS FOR EACH POST (ARTICLE AND SHORT FORM) EACH TIME, EVERY TIME. DO IT FOR THE OLD POSTS IF YOU LIKE.
QUICK TIP:
Submit one post or article every other-ish day for maximum awesomeness. Do this EVERY TIME YOU SUBMIT!!!!
QUICK TIP 2:
Leave a comment on each post or have a few employees or family comment on each post. Comments help rankings. Google bots love to eavesdrop on a good conversation. Also, change the Admin author name to someone in the company’s name (it’s just more appealing and a first name will do).
